Chapter forty-four of DP&SW is finished and up for viewing on ff.net, AO3 and here on LeadVonE.com
The draft parts were posted to the leadvone discord server over the last few weeks as they were written, and the first part of the next chapter, chapter forty-five, is available there now. Note: These are drafts and as such, are subject to change and general polishing, but if you need your DP&SW fix early, you can get it there.
Also, chapters 15 and 16 of the DP&SW audio project are now up and available on iTunes and here on LeadVonE.com
Chapter fourteen of the audio version of Dodging Prison and Stealing Witches has been finished and is now available here on leadvone.com. Another huge thank you to the volunteer editing team, who hacked away as many of my horrible voice mistakes as possible. Thank you!
Also, Dodging Prison and Stealing Witches now has a dedicated fan created page on the popular website TV Tropes. If you’re not familiar with this site, it is a wiki that lists and explores narrative tropes used in stories across all forms of media, including fan-fiction. It’s one of those sites that can sometimes be just a little too interesting, so here’s a warning… TV Tropes is easily capable of sucking anywhere between a couple hours and a couple days out of your life.
Now, having given the mandatory TV Tropes warning, go check it out.
Latest Audio Chapter — Chapter 14: Alexandra’s Birthday Party
The audio book version of chapter thirteen, Hermione Goes Shopping, is now up!
And in case you hadn’t yet heard, the narrator for Book Two is going to be yours truly. It’s something I’ve been thinking about for a while, but never quite had the guts to attempt. But then I was talking with a friend who convinced me that it was worth giving a try.
Who knows where it might lead?
And thank you again to all the people on discord who are helping me out with the editing.
Latest Audio Chapter — Chapter 13: Hermione Goes Shopping
Chapter forty-two of Dodging Prison and Stealing Witches is now live on ff.net, Ao3, and here on leadvone.com. The title is Daphne’s Birthday, work and play — part one. As you might expect, this is part one of two. Turns out this chapter was a little longer than I expected it to be. An updated release schedule will soon be posted to the Gray Mailing List.
In other news, the DP&SW Audio book project has just finished book one — Revenge Is Best Served Raw.
There are some rather large changes happening with that project — here’s the summary I posted in the author notes of the latest chapter:
1. Book one is now complete!
2. Owing to having a rather large collection of awesome stuff going on, Soren will be stepping aside as narrator for the next book.
3. All future updates (including this one — chapter 12) will be posted to www.LeadVonE.com rather than to Soren’s Youtube channel (I’m working on other distribution means as well.)
4. All of Soren’s readings are also available on the website.
5. That’s it! Go have a listen, if you haven’t already.
Latest Audio Chapter — Chapter 12. Straight From the Graveyard
Latest Written Chapter — Chapter 42. Daphne’s Birthday, Work and Play — Part One
Chapter forty-one of Dodging Prison and Stealing Witches is now live on ff.net, Ao3, and here on leadvone.com. The title is Ginny’s Decision. Please let me know what you thought of it.
Also, as you can see, I’ve been hard at work to create a new look for leadvone.com. The old website was starting to get a bit out of hand, what with all the new projects springing up all over the place, and it wasn’t really all that great to begin with.
Updating it also gave me a perfect excuse to learn more about wordpress themes. I’ve used wordpress for years, but I’ve never gone so far as to build my own theme from the ground up. It wasn’t easy, but it did let me create exactly what I wanted, which is this. Minimalist, elegant, and focused on the words — a very specifically writer’s website.
There are still a few outstanding issues. The menus don’t fully work on mobile devices, and I still need to go through my archive, update it, and clean it up of all the spelling and grammar mistakes that readers have alerted me to. But this is the new year! Lots of opportunities to do just that.
Saying goodbye to 2017, and here’s to a great 2018!
Question from Chibifurby on Discord:
One thing that came to my mind when reading this new chapter (Chapter 40 of DP&SW), more of a literary question, when we were introduced to Clare and her friends it seemed like there was an effort to purposely leave out the names of the other girls at first. Which in my opinion is fine if their names are going to be introduced by someone else saying the name…but then a page down and the names are narrated as way of introduction. Nothing wrong, per say, with doing it like that. Just makes me wonder why bother with the excessive use of pronouns before their names were revealed.
Answer: There are several reasons why I wrote it the way I did. Let’s discuss three of them. (more…)
Chapter forty of Dodging Prison and Stealing Witches is now live on ff.net, Ao3, and leadvone.com! I really hope you enjoy it.
In case you haven’t yet heard the news, all subsequent chapter releases of season three are going to be uploaded on a ‘when they are ready’ basis. This is because a bunch of my other projects have really started to demand a level of attention that requires more of my time than before. There also won’t be any official break between season three and four.
Also, a bunch of readers on Twitter got together and set up a DP&SW Facebook page, a discord server, and most impressively, a Wikia site that already has excellent summaries of every chapter along with a ton of other information, so if you need to quickly catch up with something or look something up, that’s the place to go. I understand they’re also looking for people to help with the wiki project, so if you enjoy that kind of work, I’m sure they’d welcome the assistance.
This week, I’m posting a bonus chapter that was originally posted to the Gray Mailing List a few months back — Daphne Goes Down to the Village — instead of a continuation chapter of the current season. Why?
Every secret society fears discovery. That’s why they’re a secret society. When a prophecy declares that the hidden community of mages is soon to be discovered, they decide not to wait for nuclear annihilation and instead leave Earth for the brand new world of Creakylid. Unfortunately for the mage's leaders, discovery wasn’t the only thing the prophecy foretold, and now every mage with a smidgin of ambition is blindly competing to be the ambiguously defined ‘chosen one’.
Into this barely controlled free-for-all walks Richard Struggle, the prospective woodworking hero who decided that his heroic competitive edge would be damn good logistics, because, as he told the first pretty girl he met on his journey, “What’s the point of striding heroically off over the horizon if you run out of food and have to heroically stride all the way back?"
